VIII Baikal Ice Marathon "Clean Waters Conservation Run" was successfully held on March, 03, 2012. The Winner is Sergey Kalashnikov from Irkutsk, Russia, who finished the marathon course with the record time of 2 hours 55 min. 51 sec. The second and the third places were taken by German and Russian runners - Ben Dame and Fyodor Sveshnikov. Due to the recent change of the election date of the President of Russian Federation (now to be held on March,04,2012) the Organizing Committee of the International Baikal Ice Marathon had to make a decision to hold the VIII-th Baikal Ice Marathon on March,03,2012. VII Baikal Ice Marathon "Clean Waters Conservation Run" was successfully held on March, 06, 2011. The winner Alexander Ulitin from Irkutsk finished the marathon course for 3 hours 31 min. 20 sec. The year of 2011 will be the 7-th year since UNO had proclaimed a decade of 2005-2015 as International Decade for Action “Water for Life” during which there should be at all levels a greater focus on water related issues.
On March, 06, 2010, the 7-th edition of Baikal Ice Marathon as “Clean Waters Conservation Runs” shall also and again be held on the ice frozen Lake Baikal – the world’s deepest, largest in volume and oldest fresh water lake.
Well of the Planet Earth, Sacred Sea, Siberia’s Pearl or Treasure of the World are few of the names that respectfully and with reverence refer to LakeBaikal. And in first turn, the Baikal is a live body of Great Water - the beginning and the continual of life on Earth.
